One of the most frustrating things teams complain about is having a specific team member who is allowed to get away with dysfunctional behavior that doesn’t align with team norms.
Many teams say that dominant team members – or ones who use commanding or abusive language – or ones who are low performers and never show up on time – really drag down the entire team morale.
So what can you do about it? My suggestion is to face this problem and have a frank one-on-one conversation instead of avoiding it. If you are a leader, it is your role to address this. If you are a team member, you can learn some of these crucial conversation skills and use them yourself when appropriate.
